Homemade Lotion Bars

Homemade lotion bars are about the easiest gift I have ever made, and they are so cute!  I had never made them before and was surprised at how much I liked them.  The bars are silky rich and feel great.

The basic Recipe is as follows:

1/2 Cup Beeswax
1/2 Cup Shea Butter
1/2 Cup Carrier Oil (Olive, Almond, Avocado etc.)

However I went way fancy adding two butters and several oils.  Here is what I made.

1/2 cup Beeswax
1/4 cup Cocoa Butter
1/4 cup  Shea Butter
1/4 cup Coconut Oil
1/4 cup total of (Olive, Jojoba, Avocado oils)

I heated all the of ingredients in a glass measuring cup in the microwave. It takes about 2 minutes for the wax to melt and I stirred every 30 seconds.  Then I put in 3 capsules of vitamin E.

Poured in muffin tins. This made 6 that filled the cups about half way. Let cool for an hour or two and there you go, homemade lotion bars. You can add essential oils but for the summer I think the cocoa butter is enough smell.

Have you tried a lotion bar before?  I gave some to my neighbors as early mother's day gifts and they hadn't heard of them.

Wondering where to get the ingredients?  I get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs.

  1. Great recipe, I am excited to try it. I'll have to get some ingredients although I have a trough of coconut oil to use!

  2. I never heard of lotion bars, they sound marvelous. One question, how well do they keep? I'm thinking of making some and saving them for the girls for their Christmas stocking. Yes, I know I could make them in Nov. or Dec. for the girls, but A. I'd forget where the recipe was and B. I already leave too many things until the last minute.
