Real love is selflessness. I once heard someone say the opposite of love isn't hate, but selfishness. That really struck a chord in my heart. It is true. With all that I am I believe this to be true.
When I think about conflicts and disagreements in my life, it comes down to me being selfish. The anger and frustration in my life is because I want to do, what I want to do, when I want to do it. When I don't get my way I do not always respond lovingly, and do not always exhibit real love.
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Christ asked us to love one another. His love for others should be my focus. He gave us the holy spirit, to help us show and have real love for one another.
And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.
I'm not saying we are to be doormats for our family and friends and never do anything we want, just to make others happy. But what I am saying is the next time you are really angry or frustrated, take a minute to evaluate what is actually making you so mad. I find that usually it is selfishness, and in those moments, I am not being an example of love.
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
Christ lead by example, he was selfless. Everyday, he showed his disciples how to be loving. Even in his anger he loved:
Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.
All the commandments boil down to love, and selflessness. God is love, and we are to be like him. Let us go out this week, loving and being like him!
Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
